“The most difficult thing is the decision to act, the rest is merely tenacity.” — Amelia Earhart
I once coached a multi-million-dollar producer — call him John — who told me, almost sheepishly, “I would love to get more time with the family and also to do more things outside of work.” He said it the way people say things they’ve decided are impossible. He’d built an enormous business and somehow built a smaller life around it.
A year later, after we rebuilt how he worked rather than just how hard he worked, he sent me a message I still keep: “I just hit $1.2 million GCI for the year while having a life, working four days a week, having family priority, surfing twice a week, keeping fit and still mentally energised.”
Are you living day one of a life you actually chose, or waiting for “one day” to get around to it?
The Trap of Borrowed Postures
Warren Bennis put it precisely: “People who cannot invent and reinvent themselves must be content with borrowed postures, second-hand ideas, fitting in instead of standing out.” Most agents I meet are living someone else’s definition of success — more listings, more status, more hustle — without ever checking whether it’s actually theirs.
Deepak Chopra’s line is the antidote: “When you make a choice, you change the future.” Reinvention doesn’t require a life event. It requires a decision, made today, instead of “one day.”
Feeling this one? You don’t have to figure it out alone — book a free High Performance Call and let’s talk through where you’re at.
Eight Steps to Reinvention
- Say goodbye to the old model of success; say hello to a new one.
- Redefine success in your own terms, not the industry’s.
- Abandon the methods that stopped working, even if they used to.
- Reconnect to your true values.
- Focus on meaning, passion and purpose, not just output.
- Refuse to compromise your authenticity for approval.
- Adopt a mindset of control and abundance over scarcity.
- Find the courage to set boundaries and hold them.
Take action: Pick one of the eight steps above and take a visible action on it this week — not a plan, an action.
This is Radical Ownership at its most personal: owning the life your business is supposed to be funding, not just the business itself. Day one starts whenever you decide it does.
