“Those who have a ‘why’ to live, can bear with almost any ‘how’.” — Viktor Frankl
I ask every new coaching client the same question in our first session: what’s your purpose, beyond the commission cheque? Most have never actually been asked. Mine, if you’re wondering, is to wage war against average — in myself and in every agent I work with. It’s not a life-long calling handed down from above. It’s a decision I made and kept making.
If someone asked you the same question right now, would you have an answer?
Why Purpose Beats Motivation
Mark Twain said it best: “The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.” JFK’s line applies directly to this industry: “Effort and courage are not enough without purpose and direction.” And Goethe’s observation still holds: “The greatest thing in this world is not so much where we stand as in what direction we are moving.”
Feeling this one? You don’t have to figure it out alone — book a free High Performance Call and let’s talk through where you’re at.
Ten Questions to Find Yours
- What were you passionate about as a child?
- What’s on your bucket list?
- What are your key values?
- What makes you smile?
- What were your favourite things to do in the past, and now?
- What activities make you lose track of time?
- What are you naturally good at?
- What would you regret not fully doing, being or having?
- If you could message a group of people, who and what would you say?
- How could you use your talents, passions and values to serve others?
Take action: Answer all ten questions this week, in writing, without editing yourself. Look for the pattern that repeats.
This is the engine behind everything I call High Performance: motivation runs out, purpose doesn’t. Find your “war against average,” and the hard days stop being optional extras — they become part of the mission.
