“Winning is a habit. Unfortunately, so is losing.” — Vince Lombardi

I once worked with an agent — John, again, because there’s always a John — who had the best attitude in the office. Genuinely relentless positivity. He also had zero focus: fifteen unfinished strategies running at once, none of them followed through. His attitude was a Ferrari with no wheels.

Across more than ten years coaching agents, I’ve never once met someone who won consistently on attitude, focus or effort alone. It’s always the combination, or it’s nothing.

Which one of the three are you missing?

The Recipe That Can’t Skip an Ingredient

Henry Russell Sanders, the American football coach, said “winning isn’t everything, it’s the only thing” — and whatever you think of that as a life philosophy, real estate is genuinely a zero-sum sport. Someone gets the listing. Someone doesn’t. Michael Jordan’s line applies just as well to agents as to his Bulls teammates: “There is no I in team, but there is in win.”

Winning consistently comes down to three ingredients working together — I call it the Success Trifecta.

Feeling this one? You don’t have to figure it out alone — book a free High Performance Call and let’s talk through where you’re at.

The Success Trifecta

  1. Winning attitude — John Mitchell’s line has stuck with me for years: “Your attitude towards life determines life’s attitude towards you.” This isn’t positivity for its own sake. It’s the lens you choose before the day chooses one for you.
  2. Winning focus — Gary Keller, in The One Thing, put it best: “Success is about doing the right thing, not about doing everything right.” Focus is the discipline of subtraction.
  3. Winning effort — the part nobody can coach into you. Effort is the one ingredient that’s entirely, unavoidably, your choice.

Take action: Rate yourself honestly out of 10 on each of the three this week. Whichever score is lowest is where your next thirty days of energy should go — not the one you’re already good at.

This is High Performance in its simplest form: not one great trait, but three ordinary ones, refusing to let each other slide. Talent gets you a seat at the table. The Trifecta is what keeps you there.
