“It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop.” — Confucius

A brand-new agent asked me last month how long it would take before it felt easy. I told him the truth: about three years, if he committed properly. He looked disappointed. Then he showed up anyway, and eighteen months in, he’s already ahead of agents who’ve been licensed twice as long.

If you knew it would take three real years, would you still start today?

The Ten Things That Actually Matter Early

Feeling this one? You don’t have to figure it out alone — book a free High Performance Call and let’s talk through where you’re at.

  1. Build resilience fast. Rejection is the job description, not an exception to it.
  2. Get your head in the game. Mindset work isn’t optional extra credit — it’s the foundation.
  3. Don’t rush the river. Growth compounds. Trying to force it usually just wastes the momentum you do have.
  4. Go to the heat. Put yourself where the activity and opportunity actually are, not where it’s comfortable.
  5. Your phone is your best friend. Not your CRM, not your marketing — the calls you’re actually willing to make.
  6. Leverage social media and your community. Show up consistently where your future clients already are.
  7. Find a coach and mentor. Elite Agent’s own research found agents with a coach generate about 50% more GCI than those without one.
  8. Treat it like a business, not a job. Nobody built a real estate career on a nine-to-five mindset.
  9. Become an awesome lister. Everything else in the business flows from this one skill.
  10. Enjoy the ride. Tom Panos put it best: “don’t judge your first chapter on somebody else’s 12th chapter!”

Take action: Pick the one item on this list you’re currently ignoring, and give it deliberate attention for the next 30 days.

This is Radical Ownership of your own timeline — three years is the honest number, not the disappointing one. Slow and steady still beats quitting in year one.
